Mission of the Children's Defense Fund:

Position Summary:

The Senior Administrative Assistant’s primary responsibility is supporting the functions and priorities of the Office of the Founder. The Senior Administrative Assistant may be relied upon to meet organizational needs as identified by the Executive Office.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Handle scheduling of the President Emerita, both with respect to broad planning on a weekly basis and specific scheduling needs.
  • Handle all travel arrangement, travel logistics, necessary adjustments to those logistics, and the follow up from trips to include reimbursements for the President Emerita.
  • Manage speaking engagements and additional scheduling requests from external parties to provide timely responses taking into account recommendations from CDF staff, when applicable, and elevate for the President Emerita when appropriate.
  • Handle writing projects of the President Emerita with transcribing notes to applicable documents, dictation and/or other writing support.
  • Travel with the President Emerita to CDF Freedom School National Training and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry, held in Clinton, TN, and provide assistance as needed.
  • Process all incoming/outgoing mail and copy requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for the mission of CDF and a commitment to improving the odds for all children in America.
  • Excellent judgment and organizational skills. Must be able to juggle several different projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of working under pressure and maintaining a courteous and supportive demeanor regardless of the situation.
  • Must be resilient and have the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels.
  • Work closely with the President Emerita in implementing policies, procedures, and daily operations in her office.
  • An abundance of common sense and good judgment in dealing with a range of issues.
  • Ability to draft letters and other correspondence as required and responsible for providing prompt follow-up.
  • Experience working at a non-profit preferred.
